Olliwell (UX Writing)
“Reach your wellness goals—physical, nutritional, mental health all in one app.”
Olliwell is an app that helps people log fitness activities, chart their progress and stay on track.
I designed this app as a project for my UX Immersion at CareerFoundry. This is the case study for the UX writing.

Role: UX Writer
Olliwell’s Voice
Olliwell speaks to a person like a pal. Its voice is reassuring, personable and easy to understand.
Olliwell is not wordy, complicated, or scolding. It helps people improve through encouragement.
Do:
Use second-person perspective like "What would you like to do today?"
Don't:
Don't use obscure words or elaborate language. Avoid long sentences.
Onboarding Text
Onboarding is where people get their first impressions and often decide if they want to keep the app.
I wrote short headings and sub-headings to quickly infer what people would experience with Olliwell.
The personalized questionnaire is the next opportunity to convey to people that the app is right for them.
It’s important for Olliwell to be consistent with its friendly, reassuring voice as people sign up and answer questions.
Microcopy
As people use the core features of the app, being encouraging is key.
Every screen refers to the person using it in second-person (“you”), reminding them, in an upbeat voice, that they are in charge.
Examples:
“What would you like to do today?”
“How was your meal prepared?”
“4 meals recorded this week! 3 were marked as healthy!”
“Done!” to indicate a workout was completed.
